Volunteers Making a Difference!
Donna Watson
Hi, my name is Donna and I have been a wish grantor for almost two years. My very first wish started in April 2007. I met a shy but very courageous girl named Andrea.
We hit it off right away. Andrea and her Mom became aware of Make A Wish while sitting in the Doctors office. A stranger gave them a pamphlet and thought they might be interested. While waiting to see Andrea's Doctor the two began to joke about what Andrea's wish would be. Without any hesitation Andrea said , "I want to meet Ashton Kutcher". They both laughed and although it was a great wish they never thought it was possible.
I met with Andrea and her family and her first wish was put down in pen, "to meet Ashton Kutch". We knew that meeting any celebrity would take some time, they are always very busy. As time passed Andrea's mom and I had several conversations about how much longer we thought Andrea could wait? We waited, and boy are we glad we did ! On November 5th. 2008 Andrea's wish came true. Make A Wish flew Andrea and her family to California to meet Ashton Kutcher. WOW, they were over the moon, and so was I. I am so proud to have been apart of making Andrea's wish come true. Without the help of Melanie Tipan at our Toronto office and the staff at the California office this would not have been possible so, Thank you Thank you Thank you !

It’s not everyday that a person has the chance to change a life. In the case of Make-A-Wish Toronto & Central Ontario its everyday, every hour and every minute. I have been privileged to work at the MAWT&CO office for the past three months as an administrative volunteer. This experience has been truly incredible. To witness the magic of a wish is a remarkable thing and I am very fortunate to be part of this initiative. A child should be defined by their laughter, smile and carefree nature rather than their illness. It is through MAWFT&CO that I have been able to give our wish children a chance to escape the confines of their illness and to simply put it – to be a child again.
My involvement with Make A Wish Toronto & Central Ontario is a result of my strong passion and desire to improve the quality of life of our wish children. Each day I continue to be inspired by the strength of these children and the dedication of MAWT&CO volunteers. Thank you MAWT&CO for allowing me to be part of your mission and spreading the magic of a wish.
Bonnie MarshHi, my name is Bonnie. I’ve been a wish grantor with Make-A-Wish for 1 ½ years. When I originally thought about volunteering, I searched online for something where I felt I could make a positive difference. Being an E.C.E. teacher, the MAWF was a natural extension of my daily involvement with children. The most satisfying part of my volunteer position is seeing the look on children’s faces (and parents) when I inform them their wish has been granted. I have delivered more wishes than I can count on my hands and it still remains tremendously satisfying to deliver positive news to children facing serious health issues. My favourite things include reading, painting, knitting, swimming and playing the organ. The only thing I could wish for to further enrich my life would be to travel the world and experience the different places, peoples and cultures.
