Eating Dessert for a Good Cause…What could be better?

29/04/2010

Every April 29th, World Wish Day, Make-A-Wish® Chapters across Canada join together with local restaurants and people like you to help Share the Power of a Wish and make magical wishes come true!

Make-A-Wish® Sweet Dreams Dessert Day celebrates World Wish Day, held in commemoration of the first wish granted in 1980 to Christopher – a young boy from Phoenix, Arizona. Chris was undergoing treatment for leukemia. His dream was to be a policeman. This year will mark the 30th year since Christopher had his wish come true. Volunteers made his dream come true and the Make-A-Wish® organization was founded. Since that time, Make-A-Wish® has grown across the world. We are now in over 35 countries granting thousands of wishes to children with life-threatening illness between the ages of 3 to 17.

The wonderful restaurant and hotel partners listed below will be donating the proceeds from all dessert sales on Thursday, April 29, 2010 to raise funds to make wishes happen in Atlantic Canada for children with life-threatening illnesses.

Participating locations will have a poster, bill inserts, and table/tent cards in their locations a month prior to the event. All funds raised will go towards granting wishes to children in Atlantic Canada. Each wish costs an average of $7,500. Our hope is to raise enough funds from the Sweet Dreams event to cover the cost of Samantha’s Wish, as well as raise awareness for Make-A-Wish® in Atlantic Canada.

Samantha’s Wish Story:

Samantha’s best day ever was when she received her new electric wheelchair. She has muscular dystrophy, a progressive condition that wastes away muscles that control body movements. Despite that, she’s a happy and hopeful 10 year old.

Samantha is a shy and smiling with giggles that are infectious. Her wish is to go to Disney World and that wish will happen thanks to you. She will be in Disney for World Wish Day as Make-A-Wish® celebrates 30 years of wish-granting.

On April 29th, participating restaurants in the Moncton and Halifax areas will be donating the proceeds from the sales of desserts to Make-A-Wish®, Atlantic Provinces Chapter.

Please help give hope, strength, and joy to kids living with life-threatening medical conditions in Atlantic Canada. Support Sweet Dreams Dessert Day on April 29. Purchase dessert at participating partners throughout these cities and be a part of Samantha’s Wish.
