Notice of Caution
Preview
Out of an abundance of concern and responsibility for the children and families we serve, Make-A-Wish Canada has issued a cautionary notice regarding the glowing star necklaces which were distributed as promotional items.

It has come to our attention that certain shipments of the glow star necklaces contain levels of lead which surpass the acceptable standards put forward by Health Canada.

There is no lead exposure risk associated with wearing the necklaces, as it is the lead soldering on the internal components within the sealed battery compartment that is the prevalent issue. There is a risk for lead exposure however if the battery compartment of the necklace is chewed, sucked or ingested.

In the interest of the safety of the children and families we serve our customers and consumers, Make-A-Wish Canada has ceased distribution of all glow stars and has cancelled all current and future orders until the situation is rectified. Health Canada has been informed of this voluntary action and notices are being placed in The National Post and the Globe and Mail on Wednesday, October 1, 2008.

If you have any question or concerns, or if you would like more information, please contact Krista Bussey at 1-888-822-9474 ext 223 or krista.bussey@makeawish.ca.
