July 26, 2012 (Toronto) - Make-A-Wish Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Bob Winterford, as President of the national board. Bob, Founder and President, Kids Strong and Free Foundation, succeeds Janis Ostling who will continue to serve one-year as Immediate Past President. Recently appointed directors include: Daniel Bourque, Benjamin Lo, Gerry Savaria and Bill Wignall.
“As President, Bob’s strong commitment to our mission, and his experience in the children’s charitable sector will provide invaluable insight to Make-A-Wish,” said Janis Ostling, Past President, Make-A-Wish Canada. “As well, the newly appointed directors present an impressive range of skill sets that will complement our board and further our national wish granting mission and vision.”
Ostling served a three-year term as President for Make-A-Wish.
“As President, Janis strategically and successfully steered this Foundation into what it is today,” said Jennifer Ritter, CEO, Make-A-Wish Canada. “On behalf of the board and staff, I thank and congratulate Janis for her dedicated service and leadership in the national board’s stewardship of our magical mission.”
About Bob Winterford
Bob has over 25 years of sales, marketing and business management experience across a variety of industries. He is the owner and president of two Alberta-based companies – Four Flow Industries and Eye Wonder Studios Inc. Bob is Past President of our Northern Alberta chapter, and previously served as Vice-President on the national board.
“I have had a very close connection to the Foundation over the years and it is my honour to serve as the president of Make-A-Wish Canada,” said Bob Winterford. “I look forward to the opportunity that lies ahead and working with the board in continuing to guide our strategic planning for the future on a national front.”
Bob has written and published 14 children’s books. He and his wife currently reside in Edmonton, Alberta.
About Janis Ostling
Janis served three years as President, and five years as a director on the national board of Make-A-Wish Canada, from 2007 to 2012. She will complete her six year tenure in May 2013.
As President, Janis skillfully initiated and led an 18-month strategic review of the entire organization, positively impacting the national entity and its eight chapters across the country and strengthening the Foundation for the future. Janis is currently CEO of the Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club.
“It has been a privilege to serve as President to Make-A-Wish Canada, and to see the progress we have made in the past five years,” said Ostling. “I would like to thank my fellow board members for their strong support and dedication in helping to bring the Foundation closer to the fulfillment of our vision of being able to grant the wish of every eligible child in Canada. “
Janis and her husband Les currently live in Vancouver, British Columbia.
About Daniel Bourque
Daniel is the Senior Corporate Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer at Xerox Canada Ltd. Daniel has legal experience across various areas namely Information Technology, Financing and Entertainment & Media. He is called to the law societies of Ontario, Quebec and New York State. Prior to Xerox, Daniel was a partner at the law firm of Cassels Brock and Blackwell. He is originally from Montreal but has been living in Toronto since 2000. In addition to law, Daniel trained and worked as an actor in New York City.
He is very excited about joining Make-Wish-Canada because of the goals and objectives of the organization and he is inspired by the dedication of the people behind it.
About Ben Lo
Ben is the Director of Income Tax at the Hudson’s Bay Company where he is responsible for all income tax functions including developing and documenting tax policies and procedures. Ben holds a Charted Accountant designation and a Master of Management and Professional Accounting from Rotman School of Management.
Ben resides in Toronto. He enjoys playing hockey, soccer, reading books and writing stories and screenplays.
About Gerry Savaria
Gerry was appointed President and CEO of LS travel retail North America (LS) in 2007, having held a variety of different positions in sales, merchandising, procurement and business development over his 14 years at LS.
Gerry enjoys playing hockey and basketball and traveling with the family. He and his wife, Nancy, live in Toronto with their two children, Sarah-Anne and Liam.
About Bill Wignall
Bill is a proven technology industry CEO, having run several global companies and is an experienced director/chair of multiple public/private/not-for-profit boards. Bill is currently the President and CEO of Sangoma Technologies, a publically traded company headquartered in Toronto, Canada. He is actively involved in the community via hospital research boards, teaching at multiple universities, and leading incubators such as MaRS. Bill is also an ICD certified Director (ICD.D) and a graduate of their Directors Education Program. He enjoys spending time with his family and lives just outside Toronto with his wife and daughter.
