Jayce's Wish
Wish Picture
On March 10th, 2008 Jayce was granted his wish, and was it, much more than he had dreamed it could be! His wish was to get a huge family entertainment centre with all the new gaming systems. Jayce has t-cell leukemia and is still in treatment. He didn’t want to wait until he finished his treatment, which will be in December 2008. He wanted the wish to be something that he could enjoy with his family now and for a very long time afterwards. Jayce also wanted to get his wish granted before his 13th birthday, which was on March 17th. He wanted his birthday party to be with his friends, playing Wii games all night. On Friday March 7th, a special delivery came to our door. It was a Sony 46 inch HDTV and stand. We left on Sunday morning to Edmonton, to stay and play at West Edmonton Mall. We stayed in a spacious “sports” theme room. That evening we went for a complimentary dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory. On Monday morning, Jayce, his brothers, Jordan and Josh, Dad and Mom went down to the lobby to meet our wish grantors, Rachel and Miriam, and none other than, Spiderman, he was our honorary host for the day, and what a day it was!

The next surprise was a Lincoln Navigator stretch limo, courtesy of Blue Sky Limos.

Jayce had seen this limo parked out front, from our hotel room window, and had said, “I hope that Limo is for me”. I told him, “Its probably for some important V.I.P. or celebrity”. He said, “Well I’m important, it’s my wish day”. To his delight that huge limo was for him and his “crew”. We all climbed into our spacious limo and was whisked away by our limo driver, Brian who drove us downtown Edmonton to CityTV, where we were met by anchorman, Paul Mennier and the Breakfast Television staff. Paul took us on a tour of the studio. He introduced us to everyone and told us what they did. We then appeared on live T.V. on the closing segment of the show. After our T.V. debut, we went on another tour, in the same building, to a radio station, 91.7 The Bounce. DJ, Randi Chase was “on the air”, we went in to meet her and she explained and showed us how things worked. She then asked Jayce what song he would like to hear. He is a big fan of the “Transformers” movie and requested the song, “What I’ve done”, by Linkin Park.

As we were departing the studios Jayce and his brothers were given big gift bags of goodies from the companies. The bags were full of t-shirts, mugs, water jugs, hats, new movies, and BT wind up alarm clocks. We also got awesome hockey tickets to see the Edmonton Oilers vs the Phoenix Coyotes play on March 18th.

After a fun and exciting morning, it was time to eat. Back in the limo, we stopped at Boston Pizza for lunch. It was nice to just sit and talk about the morning events. Jayce was a bit nervous about having Spiderman along, but it was a delight and a privilege to have Spiderman share the day with us.

After lunch, Brian chauffeured us to the west end of Edmonton, over to the Best Buy Store, where you can “shop till you drop”. Jayce entered the store to be warmly greeted by Paul, Patrick and the staff. On the front counter was big blue ribbons wrapped around a Nintendo Wii, a Xbox 360, and a Playstation, plus all the cords and gaming system equipment Jayce would need. Something Jayce also had wished for was a PSP for each of his brothers, he really wanted to get them something special and to be a part of his wish.

Also on the counter or near it, was a Sony home theatre system and a cable HD PVR.

Jayce was given a gift card from Best Buy to get anything else he wanted. So off went Jayce, followed by his brothers and behind them, was Spiderman, pushing the cart. He was a bit overwhelmed at first, and didn’t know what to get, but his brothers, came to the rescue, and were very helpful to point out things that Jayce should get. It didn’t take them long to fill that cart and spend the gift card. Jayce got everything he wanted. Thanks to one of the quick thinking staff members they even put away a newly release game, Supersmash Bros Brawl. Jayce was in his glory, he was delighted and excited about everything he received. He was so tired that Spiderman had to carry him to his limo.

It was time to travel to the East end of the city, while on route to Happy Harbor Comics, Jayce and Miriam did a phone interview with Shine FM DJ, Dean Jones. Dean then played one of Jayce’s favorite bands, Hawk Nelson’s song, “Everything you ever wanted”.
Jayce then met Jay and Bryan, owners of Happy Harbor Comics, Jay introduced him to artist, Joe Ng, from Udon Studios, who they had flown in from Toronto, so Joe could meet Jayce and do some sketches for him. Local artists, Daniel, Andrew and Rudi also came in to do sketches of the Transformer characters. Jayce was very touched by the special attention he got from these artists. He loved the drawings he received from them.

Jayce loves to draw as well, and was excited to show off his drawings to Joe, who thought they were very good.

The Edmonton journal, Metro, and CTV all came to interview Jayce and tell of his special day from Make-A-Wish®.

Thank you to Make-A-Wish, our special wish grantors, Nicole, Rachel, and Miriam, and Spiderman for making a truly awesome wish come true. Thank you to all the sponsors who also helped make Jayce’s Day extra exciting and special, a once in a life time experience!!
