Cassandra's Wish

Wish Picture
A HUGE thank you to Morrison Homes and all their suppliers for helping to make Cassandra’s Wish come true. A beautiful 150 square foot Playhouse was built in the families backyard for Cassandra to enjoy all year. The playhouse has two rooms, a front balcony, and beautiful mural’s painted inside all courtesy of the generous individuals that worked so hard on making Cassandra’s dream come true.

Dear Make-A-Wish, Morrison Homes, and everyone involved:

Imagine a young girl, 4 years old going to the park with her family, as she leaves the house, her eyes brighten and her smile widens. As she enters the sunshine, she expresses delight; it is clear that she loves being outside. As she travels closer to the park her sweet face appears amazed by the world that surrounds her. At the park this little girl lies on a blanket and sings a song to her baby doll “beautiful baby love . . . “. This little girl is my daughter Cassandra; a loving and beautiful child who enjoys going outside more than anything else in the world. I could take her outside every day, I would!

The story mentioned above is a true description of our trips to the park, but it is not the whole story! Add a wheel chair to the picture; and imagine that this little girl is pushed in her chair to the park. Following behind her is a private nurse pushing a bunch of bags filled with medical supplies and equipment. At the park the girl sings to her doll, but her song is silent as it is beautifully performed in sign language. My daughter Cassandra was born with a rare genetic condition; a deletion of the section Q2 23, 24.3. This genetic abnormality has no name; in fact we cannot find anyone in the world with the same condition as her. Over the last three and a half years, Cassandra has had heart surgery, three stomach surgeries, and bowel surgery. She continues to face multiple medical challenges daily. Cassandra is unable to hear or speak and struggles with weak muscles and seizures. Cassandra lived in the hospital for most of her first year of life. Without special care and support she would be in the hospital 24 hours a day every day. However, with a lot of support and courage, our family has learned how to care for Cassandra’s medical needs at home, and we currently live together, close to, but out of the hospital.

When we heard that Cassandra would qualify for a wish through Make-A-Wish we were excited. We thought long and hard on what we thought Cassandra would wish for and in the end it was for a Playhouse. Make-A-Wish and Morrison Homes, along with their suppliers made Cassandra’s wish come true. Morrison Homes and many of their suppliers put in countless hours to build a 150 sq foot Playhouse. This wish evolved into something that took on a life of its own and became a “dream come true” for Cassandra. We can now take Cassandra outside and she can enjoy the “park” in her own backyard.

There is nothing that can be written that will truly do justice in expressing our thanks and gratitude to Make-A-Wish and Morrison Homes for how they embraced this project and our family with it. The team and their magic has touched us deeply, and left behind a structural legacy that speaks of who you are as people. Thank you so much!!!

Patterson Family.
