Brandon's Wish Story
Wish Picture
When we first met Brandon’s wish granters, Brandon was too shy to come out of his room. It was a year ago now that we first sat down to discuss what Brandon would love most in the world. Because of a Mitochondrial Disorder, 7 year old Brandon cannot talk, so we had to improvise a bit to find out what his wish was. It didn’t take long to figure out what he meant when he signed “Big Mouse”.

Brandon was fortunate enough that the 2 things he loves most in the world (Mickey Mouse and Rockets) happen to ‘live’ very close to each other. When the planning began for his trip to meet the ‘Big Mouse’, we knew immediately that we would also be visiting the nearby Kennedy Space Center to check out the rockets.

On December 2nd 2009, after a very long and challenging year for Brandon involving many hospitalizations, and surgeries, we were beyond excited to set off on a weeklong adventure to Give Kids the World, Walt Disney World and the Space Center. We left the snow in Winnipeg behind, and landed in Florida ready for a wonderful week.
The week did not disappoint. We lucked into fantastic weather, and a week packed with adventure, magic, and smiles. We got to spend a full day at the Kennedy Space Centre, Brandon was able to go onto the space shuttle on display, tour the facility, and drive out to the launch pad. We had a great day and he is still talking about the rockets he got to touch!

The next day was of course – the big day to meet “Big Mouse”. We got to meet Mickey at Magic Kingdom, as well as at Epcot that afternoon (he’s one quick mouse!). Brandon was treated like royalty and had an absolute blast all day long.

The rest of the trip proved just as magical and eventful – we got to feed and pet the dolphins at Seaworld, spent hours at Seuss Landing going on rides, and meeting characters, and had an amazing time at Give Kids the World.

Brandon’s wish was fulfilled in so many ways that we hadn’t even imagined – it was the most whimsical, fun, all around exciting week away from the ‘medical stuff’ that dominates Brandon’s life these days. The memories we made will last a lifetime.

Thank you Make-A-Wish, and thank you to our sponsor company Krawchuk Consulting – you truly made Brandon’s wish come true and gave an amazing gift to our whole family!
