Shortly before the holidays we received an urgent call from Montreal Children’s Hospital. April, age 15, who had been battling medulloblastoma (a malignant brain tumour) since the age of 3, had taken a turn for the worse. April’s condition was deteriorating rapidly… what she needed … was the power of a wish!
As one of our “rush wish” children, two of our wish granting volunteers quickly rose to the challenge to ensure no detail was overlooked in making April’s special wish come true. During their first visit with April, our volunteers learned when how much she loved animals. Given the unimaginable discomfort this brave girl was experiencing daily, Make-A-Wish® began by covering the costs of a regular visit in her hospital room from one of the hospital’s pet therapy program’s furry friends. How April’s face lit up with delight with every visit.
But April’s one true wish, was to meet the cartoon character Dora, from the immensely popular cartoon, Dora the Explorer. Given April’s state of health, traveling to meet Dora was not an option. But thanks to our partners, International World of Toys, we were able to bring Dora – to April! Dora was flown into Montreal just to meet our exceptional wish child. Dora arrived at the hospital and showered April with many wonderful souvenirs, and spent some quality one-on-one time, with our very delighted wish child.
April stabilized shortly after the visit from Dora, and with her doctor’s blessing was able to leave the hospital to see the circus! A limousine was sent especially to take April and her family to and from the show with VIP tickets before the New Year. How thrilled they all were!

Make-A-Wish® Quebec would especially like to thank the Korlikian Family, www.SunbeamCanada.org and the Montreal Armenian community for their generous support in sharing the power of April's wish! This wish was also made possible thanks to the generosity of International World of Toys and Nickelodeon.
April passed away at the end of January 2007 shortly after her wish came true. Our hearts and sympathies are with her family during this difficult time.
