Team Depot Makes Jay's Wish A Reality

At only two years old, Jay was diagnosed with liver cancer and given a 10 percent chance of survival. After enduring treatment and surgery, Jay is now cancer-free.

Jay had been dreaming of having a playground for a long time. So it was no surprise when Jay wished for a playground in his backyard that he and his two sisters could enjoy. Volunteer wish grantor Jill and the Home Depot’s Team Depot set about to make three-year-old Jay’s wish a reality.

Nearly 20 Home Depot staff donated their time to help Jay’s wish for a playground come true. After two days in the summer sun, Team Depot completed Jay’s new backyard retreat. When his wish grantor Jill told him “This is yours, Jay,” he asked “Do I get to keep this?” The playground includes a clubhouse, swings, slide and a sandbox. One of the Home Depot staff told us, “The smile on Jay’s face makes this all worth it. This is exactly why we do these builds.”



Jay’s parents were extremely touched by the number of people that assisted with building the playground. They also appreciated how special Make-A-Wish^® made Jay’s wish day. Jay’s parents were overwhelmed to have such a positive family experience after going through a very difficult time in their lives. They told us “Everyone has been so wonderful. I almost feel like we don’t deserve this.”

Since wish day, Jay’s mom tells us, the first thing Jay wants to do each day when he wakes up is to play outside on his new playground!
